If you’re like us you’ll want to bring a fishing rod because the trail takes you to some good fishing spots. When you get to the trailhead you can go right to the Red Cross Trail (Red Blaze) or left to the Long Path (Aqua Blaze).

We hiked this loop counterclockwise from the Lake Skannatati Parking area, beginning on the Long Path and ending with the Arden-Surebridge Trail.

Highlights of this loop include views of Lake Skannatati and Lake Askoti, the Hasenclever Mine, and a small cemetery with graves from the 1800s. We were poking around our GPS data for Harriman State Park, looking for an area that we hadn’t done and ended up doing a loop from Lake Skannatati. An easy loop hike through lesser traveled areas of the park along old woods roads and footpaths, to a great view and an abandoned mine complex. Proceed north on N.J. Route 17 to the New York State Thruway (I-87) north and take the first exit, Exit 15A (Sloatsburg).

Skannatati Loop: 3 miles Rating: C (Easy) Park at Lake Skannatati parking lot. Facing Lake Skannatati, on right side of lake/parking lot, take LP west to the Dunning trail. Take the Dunning trail north (right) to ASB. Turn right on ASB, back to Lake Skannatati parking lot.
